The Slow Impact of Federal Cuts
Sweeping federal cuts to the food stamp program known as SNAP (CalFresh) have put many of our clients at risk of losing some or all of their food assistance due to eligibility and access barriers. These changes are already making it harder for our low-income community members to receive benefits that help them and their families. New provisions will remove work requirement exemptions for unhoused individuals, veterans, and young adults who aged out of foster care. Many of these clients struggle to find work or cannot work due to disability, mental health concerns, age, childcare needs, or lack of transportation. We are already seeing these effects at CALL Primrose, where we’ve experienced an increase in the number of unhoused individuals and families coming to us for support. Now that at-risk individuals must begin searching for alternative food assistance, CALL Primrose is expecting to serve more households than ever in 2026.
Local Helping Hands
There is a new business around the corner in Burlingame - Sweetgreen had their grand opening earlier this year and graciously donated 400 meals to CALL Primrose for us to distribute to our clients!
